UNDESCENDED TESTIS

Undescended testis(UDT) is defined as absence of one or both testis in the scrotum.This happens because of an error in the complex mechanism of testicular descent from abdomen to scrotum.The testis can be found in various erroneous locations along the path of descent.

UDT is broadly classified into palpable and non palplable.

  • Palpable UDT

 is usually palpable in the inguinal region and can be brought down to the scrotum by Open Surgery.

  • Non Palpable UDT

aka Intra abdominal testis is usually situated in abdomen.It needs to be brought down laparoscopically in Single or two stages.

The diagnosis is usually made clinically by palpating the testis or in some cases an Ultrasonography is required.

Ideal Age of Surgery is at 6-8 months for palpable ones. Non palpable UDT is usually operated at 10-12 months of age.
